Some of you know that I had to retire my mother, Ann, due to bad knees. Contrary to what she loves to tell people – she was retired, not fired! But I am going through major mom withdrawal, so we are bringing her and her cute little shih tzu, Teddy, in for open sewing twice a month. Pre-registration is required but it should be a fun day of sewing with a little puppy love thrown in to make the day extra special.

We will cover straight grain and bias binding, single vs double binding and the different methods that can be used to finish the ends of your binding. Three different binding rulers will be shown and demonstrated. The newest ruler, “Shortcut Binding Tool” allows you to make the binding and flange as one unit that is all machine stitched to your quilt, no hand sewing involved. It even allows you to make a two sided, two color binding!

We love the scrappy crazy quilt backgrounds
in this quilt. We mixed all the “word” fabrics
we have in the store to create a very unique
background that plays perfectly with the star
blocks, giving the quilt a modern flair. Students
will use the Scrap Crazy 6″ rulers and book for
this quilt. You may make any size you wish. The
blocks are 17″ so making a larger quilt goes relatively
fast.

This trendy Zippy Crossbody bag comes in two different sizes, full size 8″ x 8″ or the mini size 6″ x 8″ (pictured). Peggy couldn’t resist making this bag out of cork fabric and she loves the new Sallie Tomato hardware used in the bag. Cork fabric (especially with a little gold fleck) is a new and fun trend lately and works beautifully in this purse. Of course you can use regular cotton as well. Join us for the day and let Peggy show you the way!

This quilt reminds me more of a swirly cactus than a poinsettia but I love it just the same. If you have been contemplating paper piecing a Judy Neimeyer pattern but didn’t want to commit to a huge quilt, this 29″ quilt is the perfect size to get your feet wet. You may also make this square instead of round. Class meets two times (including one evening for prep work.)

Easy Peasy was designed to be – well – easy. We used our wonderful Kaffe Fassett fabric to create our 51″ x 68″ sample. You could add an additional border to make it larger. This is a great class for the student who has just completed Beginning Quilting as we will continue to concentrate on accurate cutting and piecing. The diagonal setting gives you the opportunity to learn setting triangles and a change from straight forward rows. Kits are available.

piecing on your own, or just haven’t
understood the technique, this class is for
you. You’ll start with “easy” blocks, move

Paper piecing is a technique every quilter
should have in their repertoire.

The gals from Sassafras Lane Designs have done it again. They created this
wonderful paper pieced quilt that we will be teaching as a 6 month block of
the month. The quilt features a whirling rainbow of color and there is even
a fabric line to go along with it if you so choose. The paper templates are
clearly marked and the shapes are intriguing. Vicki is working hard on her
sample and it should be in the shop in a few weeks. We will start this class in
May when the fabric line comes into the store. We hope you will join us for
this fun class.

Chris was very skeptical when I handed
her the Pineapple Trim Tool ruler. Pineapple
quilts can be notoriously difficult to
construct. She quickly became a convert
and loves this ruler. The ruler is designed
with lines that easily line up with seams so
each round is squared up before the next
round of strips are added. The results are
spectacular. A great way to use up all your
leftover scraps!

Class fee: $30.00 plus ruler

Customers love the look of this wonderful
13″ wide by 9″ tall bag. The pattern is by
Aunties Two, the same company that designed
the popular Gathering Basket. You
will zigzag fabric tubes together to make a
large rectangle, overlap the edges, and add
the bag bottom. The end result is one gorgeous
purse/basket. Sandi is a real pro at
this method. Sewing machine with a zigzag
stitch is required. Some homework before
actual class.

So many customers comment on this adorable
quilt we decided to do a class for you. These delightful
monsters are from the book Angles With
Ease 2. Make one monster pillow or all four
blocks. The choice is up to you. Students will
also be using the inexpensive Triangler ruler. The
book includes many other terrific quilts and runners
as well. ($19.50) This book/ruler was our
demonstration for the Twin Cities Shop Hop
last year and we sold over 250 books/rulers. It’s
a must have!

If you want a stash busting quilt, this is the one to
choose. We used 69 different fabrics just for the
geese units and 9 different backgrounds. Why? Because
we could! We also used the Studio 180 Tucker
Trimmer and Wing Clipper tools to make perfect
units. Those rulers are optional but do make the
piecing easier. Join Becky for the day and learn how
to piece this block perfectly.
