We will cover straight grain and bias binding, single vs double binding and the different methods that can be used to finish the ends of your binding. Three different binding rulers will be shown and demonstrated. The newest ruler, “Shortcut Binding Tool” allows you to make the binding and flange as one unit that is all machine stitched to your quilt, no hand sewing involved. It even allows you to make a two sided, two color binding!

This quilt reminds me more of a swirly cactus than a poinsettia but I love it just the same. If you have been contemplating paper piecing a Judy Neimeyer pattern but didn’t want to commit to a huge quilt, this 29″ quilt is the perfect size to get your feet wet. You may also make this square instead of round. Class meets two times (including one evening for prep work.)

Class fee includes pattern.

We love how this technique creates the illusion of curves but uses rectangles and straight seams for piecing each block. Varying the strip widths in the two different log cabin blocks completes the illusion. Students will learn to use the 6″ Curvy Log Cabin Trim Tool by Creative Grids to very accurately piece and trim blocks. Design options are endless and will be discussed in class. Some pre-cutting is required before class.

Class fee: $30 plus tool

Saturday, October 28 10:00 – 4:00 PM

What’s the difference between a stem stitch and an outline stitch? Colonial knot vs French knot? Chain stitch vs lazy daisy stitch? Gail has the answers to these questions and more. Join her for a few hours to learn hand embroidery basics as well as the tools you need to use. Class fee includes the book Hand Embroidery Stitches at-a-glance as well as other supplies. Bring an embroidery hoop if you have one.

Easy Peasy was designed to be – well – easy. We used our wonderful Kaffe Fassett fabric to create our 51″ x 68″ sample. You could add an additional border to make it larger. This is a great class for the student who has just completed Beginning Quilting as we will continue to concentrate on accurate cutting and piecing. The diagonal setting gives you the opportunity to learn setting triangles and a change from straight forward rows. Kits are available.

Just about anything can fit into this large tote bag. It’s made from 2 1/2″ fabric strips and Bosal double-sided fusible batting (available in a precut 2 1/4″ strip package.) The Bosal helps it to stand up on it’s own and gives it extra body.
Leave it plain or add pockets to the inside and a closure to the outside. Sandi is a pro at teaching this technique. Join her for the fun! Zig-zag sewing machine required.
